Pitcairn Power is a member of the Pennsylvania Municipal Electric Association along with only thirty four other Pennsylvania boroughs that maintain their own electric systems.

Unlike large utility companies whose profits do not directly benefit the towns they serve, Pitcairn Power offsets the cost of crucial municipal services as a payment in lieu of taxes. A portion of each customer’s monthly bill directly funds 24/7 police, public works, code enforcement and emergency services. If this were not the case, real estate property taxes would be dramatically higher and services reduced.

Maintaining an overall affordable cost of living in Pitcairn, while providing quality services continues to be our goal. Borough owned electric companies are not regulated by the PUC but by the borough government and residents are encouraged to participate, unlike a large utility where customer participation is not an option.
